<p>I think by now we all know that eating a diet rich in <a title="SKIN FITNESS" href="http://laserskinblog.com/2011/11/skin-fitness/"><b>antioxidants</b></a> (remember the “rainbow” – lots of color on your plate!) is great for your body in terms of <a title="Secrets of the World’s Most Healthy Women" href="http://laserskinblog.com/2012/01/secrets-of-the-world%e2%80%99s-most-healthy-women/" target="_blank">long term health</a> and disease prevention, as well as helping your skin remain more youthful and healthy. <h2>What are some of the more effective antioxidants?</h2>

<p>National Geographic explorer, Dan Buettner traveled across the globe to uncover the <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/13/health/secrets-worlds-healthiest-women/index.html">secrets of longevity</a>. He found it is deeply intertwined with lifestyle, diet, outlook and stress-coping practices. He shares his findings in his book, <a href="http://www.bluezones.com/">“The Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer from the People Who’ve Lived the Longest.”</a></p>
<p>Following are common behaviors of Blue Zone populations for a long, <u>healthy</u> life.</p>
<p>- The world’s longest-lived people do not think of exercise as a chore. <h2>I am often asked which treatment I think is the best anti-aging procedure.</h2>
<p>I would have to say the combination of laser Genesis and Vibraderm is the b<b>est anti-aging procedure! </b>We begin with a Vibraderm treatment.  This is our preferred method of microdermabrasion, which uses a polished steel paddle to exfoliate the skin, rather than suction and harsh abrasives.  And this is just the beginning of the best anti-aging procedure! This exfoliation enhances the penetration of the laser heat, which makes it an ideal companion treatment to Laser Genesis, which is the next part of this treatment.</p>
<p>Next we perform the Laser Genesis which involves the use of the NdYag 1064 laser to gently and safely heat the skin, causing contraction of collagen in the mid to upper dermis.  This contraction stimulates the dermis to produce new collagen.  More collagen in the skin means smaller pore size, fewer fine lines and even less underlying redness in the skin’s appearance.  Overall, the skin will eventually look fresher and smoother.  And best of all there is NO downtime with this treatment. It can be done the day of a big party. Your skin will be “glowing” after the treatment so you even though you can apply make-up right after treatment, you might want to skip it altogether!</p>

<p>University of California at Berkeley researchers scientifically proved that anyone is able to get through the toughest of times. <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/12/29/MN181MFJ63.DTL">UC Berkeley scientists tested quantifiable data on the holiday blues</a>, although the results apply to any time of the year.</p>
<p>The study found three main things make people <i>happy</i>:</p>
<p>1. Feeling grateful<br />
2. Spending time with family and friends<br />
3. Helping others</p>
<p>Happiness is a learned skill. The secret to being <u>happy</u> is to concentrate on the things in your life that work well and feel thankful for them. This is as simple as being grateful for the <a title="Drinking Coffee Lowers Skin Cancer Risk" href="http://laserskinblog.com/2011/11/drinking-coffee-lowers-skin-cancer-risk/">hot cup of coffee</a> you are drinking. Our brains either notice the things we appreciate or the things that annoy us. It is a conscious choice to be happy.</p>
<p>A connection to other people is also important, including friends, family, neighbors and co-workers. The university found most people are less connected and have fewer friends than 20 years ago. Feeling connected to people, rather than consumption and materialism, has a great influence on overall happiness.</p>
<p>Helping others also stimulates the feelings of happiness. Researchers looked at the vagus nerve, which extends from the brain to the abdomen, and determined its role of simulating happiness after acts of compassion. It truly is better to give than to receive.</p>

In fact, <u>coffee</u> is now also linked to a reduced skin cancer risk.</p>
<p><a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.latimes.com/health/boostershots/la-heb-coffee-skin-cancer-20111024,0,817563.story">Scientists reported last month</a><a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.latimes.com/health/boostershots/la-heb-coffee-skin-cancer-20111024,0,817563.story"> in the Los Angeles Times</a> that drinking coffee was associated with a decreased risk of basal cell carcinoma. This is the most common form of skin cancer in the United States with approximately one million new cases a year.</p>
<p><a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.latimes.com/health/boostershots/la-heb-coffee-skin-cancer-20111024,0,817563.story">According to researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School</a>, women who drank more than three cups of coffee had a 20% reduction in risk for skin cancer. Men who drank the same amount of coffee had a 9% reduction in the risk of skin cancer. (As noted previously in this blog, <a title="Tomato Paste Helps Fight Sunburn and Wrinkles" href="http://laserskinblog.com/2011/07/tomato-paste-helps-fight-sunburn-and-wrinkles/">consuming tomato paste</a> may also lower the risk of skin cancer.)</p>
<p>Other health benefits of drinking coffee, <a rel="nofollow" href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703278604574624032849271284.html">reported in the Wall Street Journal</a>, include lowered risk of developing cavities, gallstones, heart disease, stroke, Type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.</p>

For example, if the average adult walks just 6.5 hours a month (which equals 15 minutes a day), he could add three years to his life.</p>
<p>This is important information to know, considering only one third of U.S. adults exercise regularly. This is defined as three to five times a week of moderate or vigorous physical activity, according to the <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/10/14/MN181LH2T2.DTL">National Health Interview Survey</a> conducted last year.</p>
